SMTP SASL authentication plugin?

Hello

Plugin develomement documentation says to ask first if the idea is good,
so here I am.

I would like to implement a plugin for a new SMTP SASL authentication
mechanism. A quick look at the code shows that there is currently no
plugin hook there.

Is it be reasonable to add code so that new SASL mechanismes can be
added in a plugin? Would such a contribution be accepted?
