See if you can't get a lot of people donating a small amount monthly - would probably end up more in the long term and would give you some predictable cash flow so you can actually look at hiring someone part/full time based on the cash coming in each month. Perhaps market it as a 'sponsors club' which gives members access to a sponsors-only support mailing list which has slightly priority. This would be great incentive for continued giving.
