how to integrate a new address book

Hi I’m new to this project and what I want to do is to add a new addressbook backend form a database , I read the develop manual about how to create a plugins …. My problem is that the conf.pl->option 6 -> option 3 (as is written in the manual) (add the new backend to the configuration) is looking for a file .. or does I miss something ? The question is how can I integrate my address book backend plugins into the list of existing addressbook as shown in the address menu option , and will be show in the addressbook list when composing a mail .
