I just began writing a reply to you on this matter, having received a
separate email from you on this issue (supposedly directed to the
maintainer of the Japanese mailing list you refer to above) for the
first time only minutes ago. Some time to respond would have been
appreciated.

No, and it has never been "dead". The website has been up since
February 2003 and is still there (right next to me) as at 2:40am, 8th
November 2010 (now). It has not been updated for some time, however. I
am sure that you have also read the statement on the website in
Japanese explaining that, while the website contents are now
considerably dated ("old"), there is still information on the site
that people may find useful, and for this reason it has been preserved
for the time being.

If what you wanted to ask was whether the contents on the website will
be updated, then please read on.

I will be closing the Japanese mailing lists and the
www.squirrelmail.jp website within the year.

Some individual(s) have shown an interest in providing new content for
the www.squirrrelmail.jp website, so it may be reopened or renewed in
some shape or form. In the case of a new website eventuating, it will
be operated by individuals other than myself. I may chose to help them
by further providing the server and network environment for the
website, in which case neither the site nor my contribution would be
in an official capacity. I would be giving my assistance merely as a
"thank you to Japan and the Japanese community" (in a very broad
sense), in the hope that its contents may be of some value as
reference.

Although this has been the case for some time, I would like to make
clear that I now have no association with the SquirrelMail project.

I have learned many things from my this project, and I am glad that I
was able to contribute to it - albeit in a limited capacity - over a
number of years.

The early days working with Masato were new and exciting, and I
learned many things from him in particular. I will always be grateful
for this. Thank you Masato.

Finally, the title of the thread you initiated is "Japanese language
files", and these have been maintained independent of anyone or
anything related to the www.squirrelmail.jp website for years now. The
Japanese po files themselves in the SquirrelMail releases effectively
state that the last person to maintain the files was Andre Nicholson.
(Andre, you and I have never met, but good on you for getting in there
and updating the translations back then. I am sure many Japanese
language users were grateful for your good work. Well done.)

(Should the www.squirrelmail.jp reemerge in a new form it will be for
information purposes only, and will have no involvement in the
development of SquirrelMail, so you need not consider it as you
forward your plans to update the Japanese language file(s).)

Finally, I am no longer subscribed to any squirrelmail.org mailing
lists, and this post will be my last. I hope it has been of some help.
