There is a newer version of the Server Settings Backend plugin (not
yet publicly released, but available for the asking) that provides the
ability to connect to a socket backend such as a Sieve server, and
thus it can be used with the newest Server Side Filters plugin code.
That may be a more actively maintained route you can take(?).
