Actually you are right there.

I never looked at the "Server Side Filter" plugin as according to the
https://squirrelmail.org/ site, it was last updated in 2004 so I went
for the 2009 Avesieve (and I also was after an easy to use sieve
interface not something that only worked in the client.)

The website has mislead me.
