Our SM users are receiving this message:

However on the Squirrelmail host we see this:

# which aspell
/usr/local/bin/aspell

# /usr/local/bin/aspell -a
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell 0.60.6.1) ^C

. . ./squirrelmail/plugins/squirrelspell/sqspell_config.php has this:
 . . .
> $SQSPELL_APP = array('English' => '/usr/local/bin/aspell -a',
>                'Spanish' => '/usr/local/bin/aspell -d spanish -a');
> $SQSPELL_APP_DEFAULT = 'English';
> $SQSPELL_WORDS_FILE =
>   getHashedFile($username, $data_dir, "$username.words");
. . .

The host system runs FreeBSD-12-RELEASE-p5. The SM version is
SquirrelMail version 1.4.23 [SVN] installed as
squirrelmail-php56-20180404

Any ideas on how to debug and correct this?
