It used to be the way you describe but we took the decision a long time ago to
do the opposite of this. I don't see a compelling reason to change.

There would be more to this change than you perhaps think. Personally, I think
the benefit (if any) is not worth the effort of the change. But if you want
to submit a patch, we can consider it.

You aim is to simplify the usage of gpg, as you think this will lead to more
people using it. I always found it simple to use anyway. It seems that
understanding the basic concept is the hurdle some people struggle with, and
removing 2 or 3 mouse clicks won't help that. Do you think people should use
it completely blind, and not understand even the basics of what they are
doing?
