I'm still unsure about the cause. I see this problem only sometimes
and only in the retail version. The debug version didnt show that
behaviour, what makes tracking it down not really easier.
You can try to run from clean settings (i.e. renaming the
".sylpheed" and "Mail" directory and let Sylpheed create new ones),
maybe it depends on some config or datafiles (e.g. addressbook).

There is a Gtk redrawing bug (you already mentioned it), which
sometimes lets the message look as if it contained more lines,
but they dont really exist. Forcing a redraw (e.g. using ^L
or PgUp/PgDn) is a workaround.
I never encountered a different cause.

Yep. The same Gtk bug also causes the log window to show garbage
when appending new lines.
I am not sure when I find the time to look for solution.

Being a slow typist, I never got this problem.
Does the problem depend on spellchecking?
