You can call any application you like under
  Configuration/Common preferences/Receive/
    Run command when new mail arrives

E.g. set up a batch file "c:\script\playsound.bat" and
put that name into the "Command to execute" field.
Sample playsound.bat :
  mplayer /play /close c:\windows\media\ding.wav

The only caveat is that using "%d" needs an additional " at the
end of the command (caused by braindead cmd.exe/command.com).
E.g. 'c:\script\newmail.bat %d"'

Sylpheed can handle Mailboxes in MH format directly, and it can
also import mbox format.
I remember some LookOut conversion tools at www.kde.org at the KMail
support pages. Mozilla should also be able to import LookOut mailboxes
and uses mbox format.

Locate your Sylpheed install dir (e.g. c:\program files\sylpheed).
Copy the gtkrc.95 into its "etc\gtk" subdirectory and rename it to
gtkrc.
