Yes, this is a Gtk-1 problem, which also exists on unix.
There is even a test program shipped with the Gtk sources which
shows exactly this behaviour.

I encountered some crashes in the past, too. They happened sometimes
when copying/pasting parts with ctrl-c / ctrl-v. The strange thing is that the Windows
clipboard will contain garbage when the bug was triggered with ctrl-c,
but the copying is done by Gtk itself, so I doubt this is a programming
bug in sylpheed...

Before the copying crash, 
I didn't remember a crash while normal typing.
