Hopefully I'll find the reason before the new release.
Do you still remember or have your old settings, that
were in your crashing sylpheedrc? Especially those
values are of interest:
  enable_aspell=
  aspell_path=
  dictionary=
  aspell_sugmode=
  use_alternate_dict=
  check_while_typing=
  misspelled_color=
