On win2k you have the environment variables I mentioned before. For programs you will find additional:

CommonProgramFiles=C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien
ProgramFiles=C:\Programme

That's a german win2k. Just open a cmd box and type 'set' to see your settings.
