Running Sylpheed-claws on win98.

I've installed the latest version of claws today and can not get it to 
work on a win98 based machine.
It just turns on the hourglass a few seconds and then it dies.

The same installation works without problem on a Win2K system.

It looks that you have to do some manual configuration on a Win98 system 
or ?
