Conflict with Norton Anti-Virus

I'm using Sylpheed 0.8.11 Claws on a Windows XP machine. The problem I have is that some of my incoming email contains viruses, which are caught by the Norton Anti-Virus filter. However, when this happens, Sylpheed just treats it as an unrecoverable error, and abandons trying to download mail. I have to use some other tool to explicitly delete that message from the server before I can get my mail.
Is there any workaround for this? I'd be happy with a way to have Sylpheed skip the offending message and resume with the following one.
Thanks,
-pd
