No need to decompile, we are on OpenSource territory :)

Either use poEdit (GUI) from http://poedit.sf.net
or convert the .po file to utf8 first:
  iconv -f iso-8859-1 -t utf-8 hu.po
then to the .mo file using:
  msgfmt -o sylpheed.mo %1-utf8.po

iconv and msgfmt are contained in the unix-utilities from
my homepage. The sources are available via CVS, but you 
can use a tarball from http://sylpheed-claws.sf.net as well
(the translations for *nix/win dont differ).
