Actually, I have 5 drives for various things, including 2 ssd.  Yes, I must monitor them all, but
that is not a huge effort.  The drive in reserve is my newest, so sure it might die
tomorrow, but my experience over 40 years or so is that it probably will not.

I personally have come to have much less fear of externally caused loss of data.  Far more
likely, in my experience is loss of data on C:.  So I don't put anything there if I can avoid it.
