So, the next thing to wonder is when it stopped accepting outbound mails and what changed, where? You are using TB version 6.0.12, so that's not going to have changed for a while. Unless you manually adjusted the account settings on both configurations (your's and your wife's), I'd suggest there may have been a change in the external server config in connection with your charter.net domain.
