If it helps, in Debian, in /etc/amavis/conf.d/01-debian, there is a line:

    $ripole = 'ripole';

So, in /etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user, I have just added a line to override 
this:

    $ripole = ['ripole', 'antiword'];

installed antiword and restarted amavis. It now all looks OK.
