What (if any) would be a similar project with similar features that
you'd recommend?

I've run Maia on FreeBSD since 2013, but postfix and dovecot are stuck
on old and insecure versions (bc I haven't wanted to fix them and deal
with the php mess), and Maia itself has been broken for me for a couple
years now -- I just haven't had the desire to try to fix it, so it's
remained broken and I've relied mostly on spamhaus blocklists for
blocking at the FW to limit spam (hasn't been horrible, but not as well
as a good Maia install).
