Some great ideas in there, and I like a lot of them :)

Here’s an added thought you just brought to mind:

Could the whole thing be built with Python?  If we could build everything in one development ecosystem it would make things a lot easier to maintain for one thing.  It always bothered me to have to duplicate a lot of the database routines in perl and PHP, for instance.  I thought more than once about going 100% perl, since the module support exists to do the GUI side.  With things shifting toward Python these days, though, there may be more current support (and fewer orphaned packages) in that direction.

I love the Thunderbird idea—I’d definitely be interested in seeing what they’re doing for their Junk Mail detection.

I haven’t looked much at mongodb yet, but now I’m definitely going to take a look :)
