I've reached an impasse in my effort to get full maia functionality working on opensuse leap 15 (which is to SLES 15 as Centos is to RHEL) It's certainly possible to run the smtp, maiad/spamassassin, clamav and database parts on suse, but the web component will have to run on a different platform, at least for now. The php/pear battle was a time sink that I was unable to resolve in a reasonable time frame, On the bright side though, maia on ubuntu-20.04 is working fine here now, with the latest modifications to the installer, and one slight workaround to add back the deprecated php-wddx functionality.
