The "/usr/local/share/smarty" directory path should not be changed as it's set by the ports/pkg system this way for a reason. If you update Smarty, it will complain about the missing files and also re-create the default again and the update will NOT go into "/usr/local/share/Smarty". The symbolic link example was for the your /usr/local/www/maia/libs directory. Inside that directory, Maia is looking for "Smarty/Smarty.class.php". If there is no /usr/local/www/maia/libs/Smarty directory, you would create a symlink to /usr/local/share/smarty in that directory so Maia could see it.
