It's odd that column was set up with the NOT NULL restriction, since it
doesn't seem to be used, and is null on every row here.

Seeing the error apparently depends on whether the mysql install is set to
strict mode.

In any case, for those who want to use mysql and not mariadb, this cleared
it up here.
