Maia 1.0.4a, Ubuntu 20, start/stop

I've been trying to create a new mail server on Ubuntu 20.04LTS. I have 
maia running (really untested, but up).  But I notice that service or 
systemctl can't stop maia.  It does start it, and I can see the 
processes and the pid/lock files created.  But stopping it removes the 
pid/lock files, but doesn't stop the daemons.  No errors output or 
logged anywhere I can find.

Anyone had any experiences with this?
