You're correct, it is apparently finding a vpopmail library. If you "nm libvpopmail.a | less", do you find/see the missing vauth_ functions? I show them under both the libvpopmail_a-vpopmail.o: and libvpopmail_a-vauth.o: sections. If you don't see them then there's a problem with your make of libvpopmail.a, as you suspect. If you do see them, then it appears that your libvpopmail.a isn't being picked up for some reason (the lib_deps file is silently not being found).
