In case no one has answered your question yet -- vpopmail does not run 
as a process, so you won't be able to pick it up using a "ps" command. 
There are a couple ways to ensure that vpopmail is running correctly; 
make sure that: 1- qmail is running, 2- your database (or other 
back-end) is set up correctly, 3- listing users on a domain works, from 
an application such as vqadmin (this shows that vpopmail can access your 
data source correctly), and finally, 4- that sending a message to a user 
on your domain works correctly. If all of these tests pass, vpopmail 
should be properly configured and running on your system.

If any of these steps fail, there are multiple dependencies you can 
check. Depending on your configuration, you may have other processes 
that should be running, such as spamd for spam filtering, and clamd for 
virus filtering. Be sure to also look in any logs related to qmail for 
any signs of breakage. You may also want to check out a site such as 
www.qmailrocks.org for more help configuring your system.
