John, I'm sorry you haven't received a response before now. I will try to reproduce this problem right now. I have created a new user on my system, and I'm running emacs 25.1.1, I'll see where I end up. -- steps adduser d-test ssh -X d-test@localhost emacs -Q edit ~/.emacs.d/init.el to have the melpa repository according to https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/MELPA restart emacs C-h v emacs-version RET 25.1.1 M-x package-list-packages RET I wanderlust (20190725.823) restart emacs M-x wl RET (I am presented with a message "Folder +draft does not exist, create it? (y or n) " I'll try to build and test with emacs 26.2 now. Hrm. "Works for Me, (tm)." I'm running an emacs 26.2 that I just now built from source. I guess the only difference might be that my wanderlust came from the install with emacs 25.1.1. Let me delete that and reinstall. Well, it is still working for me, at least through the errors about not having a tmp directory, a draft directory, etc. How did you build wanderlust? Did you install it from melpa? I'd love to help you figure this out, but I think I'm at a loss as to what might be going wrong. From reading your error message, I think that maybe the 'wl' package isn't in your emacs load-path? I don't think that could be the problem, though, because I didn't edit my load-path at all after doing the install.
