If you installed from Melpa, your version should be "20160720.2318"
Which, unless I am mistaken, is bbdbv3 tree.

Did you install this manually and/or pin your package archive to
melpa-stable?  Else perhaps installed bbdb via OSX package system?  In
wh/case I may well suspect they'd be on v2 still.
