Dunno then.  That config should favor melpa over melpa-stable, as the
former have the higher versioning numbers.  I have done nothing to
configure bbdb but when I M-x bbdb-version I get following:

BBDB version @PACKAGE_VERSION@ (@PACKAGE_DATE@)

Maybe you have something left over from previous bbdb?  Move those
files to some different backup name.  Uninstall, reinstall bbdb from
package.el?

I am ... not a gnuru so that's all I got...;-P
