Hm, strange.

I'm not sure what the problem behind the second and the last compile
error is. I have the gut feeling that the byte compiler saw some old
definitions, but I'm not sure.

You said you get a 'no name' message. Is that in wl or did you use
bbdb alone in that test? What happens when you type M-bbdb and at the
search prompt press enter. Does that work?
