Well, I finally got things working. First thing I had to do was to
update semi and the other packages to the newer versions. Then I
tried installing wandrlust. It got in, after restarting emacs, but it
gave me the error that wl-match-string function definition was void
when I tried to reply to a message. Then, I said what the heck and
upgraded all possible elpa packages and so far that seems to have done
it.
Thanks again.

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?
