I am still not experiencing this problem with an unpatched 0.53. I'm 
currently sticking with the unpatched version because I don't know if 
the patch will break things for me.

 From a quick look at the patch, it appears some functionality was 
simply commented out. What was that code doing? Can I safely apply this 
patch?
