Problem importing mboxes from filesystem

I have a fresh download of Zoe, running on a linux (gentoo) system. I'm planning to use it to index old mail list archives, and so am very interested in the "Import from Filesystem" function. All of my archives are already in mbox format. I've moved them into my Library folder, and made sure that they are readable by the same user as Zoe is running under. I also made sure they all had a .mbox extension. I then created a "dummy" account in Zoe (since I don't need to actually access any live POP or IMAP accounts at this time). Once the account was created, I clicked on the "Import" button. The Info bar confirms that Zoe is looking in the correct place for the mail boxes, however, none of the inboxes are being imported. The only error message that I get is: info: did not find any mail boxes. At this point I'm stumped. Any suggestions on where to look next in terms of troubleshooting? I've tried with a number of different mbox files, from different sources, so I don't think its a simple matter of one mbox file that's become corrupt. They are all still readable in PINE, as well.
