Substring search. Search mixed body and header

Hi,

I'm sorry if this question has already been posted but I couldn't find 
it.
I'm using zoe 0.5.9 and I have few problems when performing a search.

Sometimes it happens to search for an email coming from a person I know 
the name of AND I know that a word appears in the body. Many times this 
type of search fails. If I search for two words both in the body 
everything is fine.

Sometimes it happens that I'm searching for a substring. The 
interesting thing is that it seems that if the substring is aligned on 
the left of the word (ending part of the word) It works, if it's the 
initial part of the word it doesn't. This is the case of URLs for 
example, or even just email addresses.
I already tried operators like * or ~ with no reliable results.

Is there any known limit for this type of searches?
