SMTP sending issues (non-relay)

Howdy All!

Overall, loving ZOE - got it set up easily enough and it's receiving my 
IMPA (.Mac) mail just fine.

However, I am having an issue getting the compose/reply feature to work 
through the SMTP.  Specifically, when I reply to a message, the server 
"hangs".  Checking my ZOE log file, I'm finding the following error 
message:

"(Warning) MonitoredOutputStream.destroy: java.io.IOException: Broken 
pipe"

I have checked the SMTP settings against those of my Mail.App client 
(which does connect through), and I've successfully telnetted into the 
SMTP server itself without issue.  The problem seems to be contained to 
the ZOE SMTP server.

I searched the archives, but couldn't find a good match, although I saw 
a comment about java having difficulties with Panther's Firewall (?).

Running OS X 10.3.4, with ZOE 5.9.

Any assistance would be appreciated (and sorry if it's a repeating 
topic).
