you in fact have already replied to the newer message (which had a subject ending in "final 
solution") where you stated that the path charicteristics are specific to each IMAP implementation. 
because of this, i can only assume that my "solution" at the bottom of that previous message is 
worthless to all but users of uw-imap servers.  regardless, at the end of the "final solution" 
message were the steps i ultimately used to solve the problem.  thank you for your suggestions 
though.

i am now onto the problem of RSS feeds not being processed correctly...
