don't want to step on james' toes, but should correct some recently posted
misinformation:

1. about dif juz: although you might think that the band's name would be
pronounced like the word "diffuse", the now ex-4ad employee who worked with
the band confirmed for me that the second syllable of the name rhymes with
"buzz."

2. emigre has always been a graphic design magazine. its early issues
focussed on the then-new area of digital typography. the founders of the
magazine later started up a small independent record label (emigre records),
but emigre has never been a music zine. emigre is still published (see
www.emigre.com), and i don't think there was any direct connnection between
the company that runs emigre and raygun. the designers on the list can
correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that raygun was a descendant of a
magazine called beach culture, started by a designer who had previously
worked for surfer magazine.
