If you can acquire it, invest in the 4AD compilation Natures Mortes, it has gems from the early days with artist like the Past Seven Days and such. As for Post-punk, early Simple Minds had some cool instrumentals before they went all stadium on us. There's Crispy Ambulance, Random Hold, Tunnelvision, the Wake, Biting Tongues, the Pop group, Throbbing Gristle, Minny Pops, Punishment of Luxury, Five by Six, 23 Skidoo, Positive Noise, Josef K, Chameleons, Magazine, early Human League,Ultravox and Modern English, and the Names (great band), Cindytalk, all these groups should keep you warm at night.
