Breathless

Though I've been lurking on this list for years I find its time to say a rare 
hello and comment on one of the perhaps unnoticed jewels of the late 80's 4AD 
era, that is, the band Breathless.  Though I have seen occasional posts 
through the years from others, I'm curious what members of this list have to say 
about them.

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with this band but those who are 
not may  remember Breathless vocalist Dominic Appletons distinctive vocals on 
This Mortal Coils' Jeweler, Strength of Strings or Tarantula.  It was Dominic's 
mesmerizing pipes that first lured me into the world of Breathless and I've 
never been disappointed since.  Dominic could justly be compared in style to a 
cross of Mark Hollis of Talk Talk and Morrissey if you need a not so far 
reaching example.

In a 19 year career they have released 7 full length albums, many that would 
be included on my list of Desert Island Discs.  Their style has changed 
slightly through the years from a 4ADish darkwave/dream pop band to a more 
minimalistic ambient style but still theres always been the Breathless signature.  Just 
this past month they have brought us a new masterpiece (their first release 
in 4 years) entitled Behind the Light that seems to cleverly merge the 
Breathless of past with the ambient waves of their newer style.  Needless to say, I 
just can't stop playing it and I'm quite curious to hear what others have to say 
about the band and the new material, if you have heard it/them.
