Hi Robo,
Well theoreticaly, any album combining the talents of Messrs James
and Paradinas is mandatory listening. As you probably know, the
album was the result of a feverish weekend of activity sometime in
the mid-90s.
Surprisingly, the album manages to sound neither like an Aphex Twin
or U-Ziq album! There's much more reliance on sampled loops from
what sound like old exotic/easy-listening records, along with some
daft burping sounds on 'Upright Kangaroo'. There are some very
cool, groovy moments, such as opening track 'Mr Frosty' and 'The
Sound Of beady Eyes' using some nice electric piano. Generally
speaking, I can't help feeling a sense of aimlessness about the
whole thing - it sounds like exactly what it is - two friends
mucking around enjoying themselves. But it is still an enjoyable,
very listenable album which a hardcore fan like yourself really
should own, Robo.
Go and buy it tomorrow lunchtime!
