And I would like to reiterate that I am actually *in favour of* a public fire department that is set up for "the common good" and supported by taxes etc -- just as I am in favour of the hospital down the road from my place which has let me make several visits over the past few years (for me and/or my kids) without once giving us a bill. But if such a system does not yet exist, then I'm not going to pooh-pooh anyone who abides by the existing system.
