Giving Up On Netflix

So I played hookey from work today, and as I lounged on the couch,
drinking a rum a coke and wasting my life, I got the hankering for a
movie. Nothing cerebral, just something dumb and fun. Something to put
a smile on my face.

I've been enamored with Netflix's Instant Watch feature, but have had
kind of a love/hate thing going on with it. I love the fact that it's
given me the first season of "Louie," and access to "Battlestar
Galactica." Good things. But it seems like every time I tell Patience,
"You *have* to see this movie," it isn't offered on Instant Watch.
This has happened more times than I care to remember. It's
frustrating.

Today, however, was something else. Here is a list, in order, of the
films I went looking for, which are not available:

Back to the Future (any installment)
Robocop
Star Wars (any installment)
Anything from the Kevin Smith oeuvre
Office Space
The Road Warrior
Best in Show
The Princess Bride
Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle
Anchorman
Judge Dredd
ANY ROCKY OR RAMBO TITLE (that's 10 movies)
Zoolander
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Lost Boys

That's a 38-movie streak. These are not obscure titles. I
intentionally went looking for popular, well-loved titles in the hopes
of finding something -- anything -- to pass the morning. Not a damn
thing.

I realize there are rights issues at play. Instant Watch is a great
idea, but until the implementation gets better, I can't recommend it
to anyone. Dammit.
