evangelical jargon (random personal musing)

So, a few weeks ago I took part in a podcast organized by a local church,
and one of the participants was someone I had never met before.

As we sat there getting miked (or however you spell that word), the man,
who was sitting next to me, asked, "So where is home?"

This seemed like a slightly odd way to ask "Where do you live?", but I
didn't mind. So I told him what the nearest intersection to our home was,
and that we lived only a couple blocks from the hospital, etc., etc.

He seemed a bit amused as I answered, but oh well.

Then, a little while later, someone came to our table to talk to him, and
as I overheard bits of their conversation, I realized that, when this
person uses the word "home", he's referring to people's *home church*.

Should this have been obvious to me? Do all evangelicals assume that,
when they ask a fellow Christian "Where is home?", the other person will
know that they must reply by saying which church they go to?

Has evangelical jargon changed noticeably since I stopped attending their
churches with any regularity? Or have I just started to forget it?

Side note: Three nights ago I went to the 25th anniversary event held at
the Pentecostal high school from which I graduated. (The event
commemorated the *founding* of the school, rather than any graduation; I
was part of the first grad class, and we graduated 23 years ago.)

And it was an interesting event, inasmuch as some of the songs and lingo
and whatnot felt very familiar to me -- like watching an old favorite
movie, one that I used to watch repeatedly, for the first time in years
and realizing it still feels like a part of you -- while other bits felt
odder than ever, and the oddity was only increased by the fact that
everyone else seemed to take those bits for granted.
