But the fact is, he was right.

He might have been wrong if he had said "*The* Muslims attacked us on 
9/11."  But as far as I can recall, he didn't.

Interestingly, in World War II, it was certainly possible to say "*The* 
Japanese attacked us..." or "*The* Germans attacked us...", because it was 
very clear that the attacks had been directed by centralized national 
governments.  The fact that some Germans and Japanese -- especially those 
who had left their countries -- might have disapproved of the attacks did 
not mitigate the basic accuracy of such statements.

The Muslim world, of course, is nowhere *near* as centralized as an actual 
nation, and certainly nowhere near as centralized as Germany and Japan 
were during World War II.  But, as Paul noted, that doesn't mean there 
aren't well-funded, highly organized trans-national groups that have made 
it their aim to attack us, as they did on 9/11.
