Barely.  I assume (and hope) the reason they recently changed their
name from "National Public Radio" to just plain old en-pee-arr is in
anticipation of losing that 2% of their budget.  I'll cheer that day.
It'll be good for them.  And I'll still trust NPR more than Fox News.
(Which is to say, I'll continue to leave the room in shock and horror
when Fox News is on, and continue to listen to the Marketplace and
Radiolab podcasts.)

From my (limited) point of view, they have a higher standard than
anyone else in American radio or TV; than just about anyone other than
certain print journalists.  A higher standard of fairness wouldn't
prevent them from firing Jaun Williams.  It might force them to
reprimand or fire their more outspoken liberal analysts who support
liberal pundits and make public proclamations of their personal views.
 Whether Williams was right or wrong (or right or left) has nothing to
do with his crossing the journalistic line created by NPR.  At any
rate, I'll shed no tears for Williams over trumped up "censorship"
charges, when he's reportedly just been hired by Fox for $2 million
and was clearly at no risk of going homeless.

Find a specific example of a liberal NPR analyst going onto liberal
pundit show, and giving their personal opinions or speculations, and
we can debate or agree on whether they should also be fired (freeing
them up to be hired by some left wing media outlet that isn't beholden
to the same rules as NPR).  Unfortunately for journalism, most of the
money seems to be in punditry these days.  (Fortunately for
journalism, it isn't nearly as capital intensive an enterprise to
embark upon anymore.)
