Can't be government waste or anything... -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of The Voice Of Objective Truth Sent: Monday, October 25, 2010 3:51 PM To: DADL (off topic) Subject: Re: [DADL-OT] David Cross on Health Care On Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 6:07 PM, Karl <[email protected]> wrote: > **the question is who pays more in the long run, you in your taxes, or me in my > premiums, that allow me the same freedom of care. Well, one thing I often see brought up is that the per-capita government spending on health care in the United states is higher than it is in Canada. Most data I can find comes from OECD http://www.kff.org/insurance/snapshot/chcm010307oth.cfm http://www.chrt.org/publications/price-of-care-2010/issue-brief-2009-12-health-c are-spending-by-country-state-and-payer/ http://seekingalpha.com/article/146992-comparing-u-s-healthcare-spending-with-ot her-oecd-countries # On a per capita basis also the U.S. spent the highest with a total of $7,290 which is two-and-half times the OECD average # The public share of health care expenditure in the USA (45%) is less than any other OECD country # Despite spending the most, the U.S. provides health care coverage for only the elderly, disabled and some of the poor people # In comparison, the same amount is enough to provide universal health care insurance by the government for all citizens in other OECD countries http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0934556.html So, in 2007, Canada's total public & private spending combined is about the same amount as the public dollars per capita spent by the US -- around $3,000. Then on top of that, there is another $3,000 per capita of private money. It's no wonder some things are better in the US when you have double the total investment per-capita. But, IMHO, Canada seems to be getting more value for it's money.
