There are 90+ competitive seats that are held by democrats. I follow politics relatively closely and I've never heard /seen any reasonable person predict a 100 seat gain for republicans . ________________________________ From: Karl <[email protected]> To: DADL (off topic) <[email protected]> Sent: Wed, October 27, 2010 11:31:55 AM Subject: Re: [DADL-OT] More than a thumpin' Well, Thom is actually partially right. There were estimates of possibly 95-100 seats in play. That however was as near as last week (the chairmen of the NRCC), not just earlier this year. Last April Boehner did say he felt at least 100 were in play, and others have too. But I couldn’t find any quotes of “well over 100” either. Maybe just a slight exaggeration? Where did you get that number from? 40 - 60 has been the most commonly mentioned range of pickups in the house. ________________________________ From:"[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, October 26, 2010 8:51:55 PM Subject: Re: [DADL-OT] More than a thumpin' Of course, this all ignores the polls and research that suggests Republicans are likely to gain an edge-even a majority...but nothing like originally thought (it used to be a belief that it would be well over a hundred-now optimism is 50 or even less). It also ignores that a few months ago when the expectation for some states elections were "it's bad to be an incumbent!" and then all but one incumbent won. I don't doubt the Republicans will get the majority next week...but that this will be some sort of incredible "thumping" seems far more up in the air. But it might as well be happening today. For -- barring major news events or extraordinarily damaging revelations about individual candidates that cause probable voters to rethink their choices in unprecedented fashion -- the 2010 cake is baked, it's out of the oven and it's cooling in an undisclosed location. -- dadl-ot mailing list http://mail.thehood.us/mailman/listinfo/dadl-ot_thehood.us http://news.gmane.org/gmane.music.dadl.ot
