Yeah, but as the actors get older and fatter, that'll be more difficult.

River?  Interesting.  I would have thought babes-who-kick-ass are sort of 
an intentional component of anything made by Whedon.  (But I agree with 
you that River's enigma-ness was frequently insufferable.)
