Once she finally becomes an integrated member of the crew, her character arc is over, and (ironically) that is the perfect time to send her on her way. She's finally right in the head head now and doesn't need the crew any longer. I'd prefer to know she's out there creating trouble for the Alliance on her own, like a >Ranger. But I don't need to see her with Serenity anymore.
It might have been interesting if maybe she had opted to go off with the Operative. Then they return next, the two are deadly weapons against the ruling class. :)
